A national group is in Vermont trying to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving.
The founder of End Distracted Driving is working with lawyers in Vermont to spread the message to students. Organizers shared stories about distracted driving with students at South Burlington High School. The kids also shared their experiences. End Distracted Driving encourages kids to stop others from driving distracted -- including their parents.
"Moms and dads are concerned about their teens, the teens are concerned about their mom and dad. Isn't that the perfect recipe for change as a family and change within the community? Drunk driving is no longer socially acceptable. With these teens help up here in Vermont, distracted driving will no longer be socially acceptable," said Joel Feldman, the group's founder.
Students will take home contracts agreeing to stop driving distracted. Feldman lost his daughter four years ago when she was killed in a crosswalk by a driver looking at his phone.
