The Burlington School District has taken action against one or more employees in connection with the Giovana Yaranga sex investigation.
Yaranga is the former Spanish teacher who pleaded guilty to having sex with a student. She avoided jail time, but has lost her teaching license. The school district investigated whether other staff or faculty knew about Yaranga's involvement with the 17-year-old student, but failed to report it in accordance with the state's mandatory reporting law. School officials announced Tuesday the investigation is complete and "personnel actions have been or are being taken," but because of contractual limitations can't say what those actions are or who was targeted.
The district does plan to hold a training session to make sure all employees understand their mandatory reporting obligations.
