River cleanup aids water source

SAXTONS RIVER, Vt. -

Volunteers in Vermont are helping the health of the Long Island Sound.

More than 2000 people removed some 45 tons of trash from the Connecticut River. To put that in perspective, one ton of trash is enough to fill an average living room from its floor to ceiling.

Organizers say the Sound gets more than 2/3 of its water from the Connecticut River.
