Contingency plans for Vt. Health Exchange

Posted: Updated:

What happens if Vermont Health Connect is not ready to go by January first?

Wednesday -- on "The :30" -- Administration Secretary Jeb Spaulding admitted that there are contingency plans being worked on.  Last week the Governor would not directly respond to reporter questions about a back-up plan -- saying he was more focused on making the new mandatory health exchange work.  Spaulding says there are actually several contingencies the administration is coming up with.

"It would be irresponsible of him and his team to not develop contingency plans whether we need them or not, when the time comes or if the time comes when it's necessary to have one, he'll explain which one is the best course for Vermonters," Spaulding explained.

Originally the administration said Vermonters would be able to pay for their insurance coverage online by November 1st. Spaulding would not discuss dates or whether that Friday deadline would be met.
