ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) - There's a boil water notice in effect in St. Johnsbury, Vt., following a major water main break.
The water break happened on Monday afternoon on Railroad Street near its junction with Bagley Street.
The Caledonian Record reports water service resumed for impacted customers nearly nine hours later following repairs.
Town Manager John Hall said the water break is a result of century-old pipes.
Bacteria may enter the water system upon infrastructure breaks, so town officials submitted municipal water samples to a laboratory for tests, which are expected Wednesday or Thursday.
Residents shouldn't drink the water without boiling it.
