App helps parents track kids' whereabouts

Posted: Updated:

It's a storyline we hear all too often -- kids going missing.

But tech developers hope the launch of a new app can help parents keep an eye on their children even when they are not home.

John Guydon created the Lassy Project app after hearing a story about a little girl in Colorado being abducted and murdered. It lets users map out their kids' route to school, to a local park or even a friend's house and track them on their cell phones. If children veer off track mom and dad get a notification.

That's when the option of crowd sourcing kicks in. If a parent can't reach the child they can hit escalate. This sends a notification to all the neighbors that someone is missing. Guydon says he hopes this technology can one day help save a life.
