Big news for the Kingdom. A big box store just got the green light.
Walmart plans to build a 150-thousand square foot Supercenter on property off Route 5 in Derby. Environmental groups have opposed the store believing it will hurt other area retailers.
Under the deal announced Wednesday, the groups will drop that opposition in exchange for a pledge from developer Jeff Davis not to pursue any more Walmart's in Vermont for at least seven years. Davis and Walmart will also pay $800,000 to help the region's economy adapt to Walmart.
