NEWPORT, N.H. (AP) - A Massachusetts man has pleaded guilty to negligent homicide in a New Hampshire collision that killed a Vermont woman and injured her 14-year-old stepson.
Thirty-year-old Luke Garlinger of Mansfield, Mass. pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of negligent homicide while intoxicated and one count of second-degree assault in Sullivan County Superior Court in Newport.
The Valley News reports that Garlinger's lawyer, Richard Guerriero, told the judge his client is deeply sorry for the pain and death he caused.
Prosecutors say Garlinger was speeding and intoxicated when his car crossed the center line on Main Street in Claremont in April and crashed head-on with a mini-van, killing 42-year-old Shellie Blaisdell of Windsor, Vt. and injuring her 14-year-old stepson.
Garlinger faces up to 15 years in prison.
