Web Watch: Internet user saves man's life

Posted: Updated:

A lot of web users go online to share what they are thinking, feeling and doing.

One of those Internet surfer's close eye caught some very disturbing news from half way across the world.

A man in the United Kingdom spotted a posting in a chat room about a man threatening to kill himself. He did not know how to reach 911 from the UK. Instead he sent a Facebook message to the Scarborough Police Department in Maine. Police officers found the man and sent officers to his home to respond. They took him to a hospital to get the help he needed.

Suicide is an issue many young people in Maine are struggling with. Suicide Prevention experts say it's the second leading cause of death for 15 to 34 year-olds. Experts say people are more likely to air their thoughts through the keyboard than the telephone -- and in this case -- social media saved a life.
