UVM Women Pack The Gut, Fall To B.C.

Friday, November 8th

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Emily Field scored twice for the fifth-ranked Boston College Eagles as they defeated Vermont 6-1 Friday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Vermont set a new regular season Hockey East attendance record with 2,028 fans as part of the "Pack the Gut" promotion to benefit Meals on Wheels Burlington.

Boston College opened the scoring 6:16 into the first period. Field took a shot, while cutting down the wing, that was stopped initially by Vermont goaltender Roxanne Douville but deflected off a defender and in for her second goal of the season

Vermont native Melissa Bizzari made it 2-0 with a shorthanded tally at the 10:48 mark of the opening period. She put home the rebound off an Andie Anastos shot to collect her third goal of the year.

The Eagles extended their advantage to four goals early in the second period. Freshman Haley McLean entered the Vermont zone on a two-on-one and snapped a wrist shot past Douville for her second goal of the season at the 4:48 mark. Hockey East's leading scorer Haley Skarupa added another 30 seconds later.

Anastos added another shorthanded goal with 6:41 left in the second period. Vermont pulled its goalie for an extra-attacker looking for a spark, but they couldn't convert. Field rounded out the Eagles scoring on the power play with 4:15 left in the period.

Bridget Baker got the Catamounts on the board 11:03 into the third period. She deflected a Gina Repaci point shot past Boston College goaltender Corinne Boyles for her first career goal. Fellow freshman Casey Leveillee picked up the secondary assist on the goal for her first career point.

Boyles earned her sixth win of the season making 30 saves for the Eagles. Douville made 47 saves for Vermont in her second Hockey East start of the season.

"I want to thank all those who came out to the game tonight to support our team and Meals on Wheels," said head coach Jim Plumer. "It was a fantastic atmosphere to play in and we're proud to have broken the Hockey East attendance record. They were treated to some high level women's hockey and I hope we will see many of them again as we strive to build a strong program."

Vermont returns to action Sunday afternoon (2 p.m.) when they face New Hampshire at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
