Fire destroys historic home in Fairfax

Posted: Updated:
FAIRFAX, Vt. -

A historic home in Fairfax was flattened by fire.

Officials say the fire on Goose Pond Road broke out Saturday morning, and quickly spread. Home owners were inside at the time. Multiple crews responded, but were unable to save the structure. Luckily no one was injured. The house was built in the mid 1800's. Neighbors say it's a big loss.

"They say that oxen teams pulled lumber through the fields to build the house, pretty sad. It's a pretty big blow," said neighbor Phil Baskette.

The Red Cross is providing assistant to the couple who lived in the home. The exact cause is still being investigated but officials say the fire does not appear to be suspicious.
