ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The registry of New York sex offenders is being expanded to include multiple photographs of people on the list.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the goal is make the offenders easier for authorities and the public to recognize and to account for any changes in their appearance.
Offenders classified Level 1 or 2 are required to update photographs every three years and Level 3 offenders must do that each year. Those at that top level and people designated sexual predators must also confirm their addresses every 90 days with police, who can take a new photo if they've changed appearance.
Until now, the registry could handle only one photograph for each person.
The change was announced Monday.
