PAC to pay Vt. $30K for campaign finance violation

Posted: Updated:

A Democratic Party political action committee will pay the state of Vermont $30,000 for a campaign finance violation.

The case dates back to the 2010 campaign when the PAC known as Green Mountain Futures ran more than a half million dollars in ads against Republican gubernatorial candidate Brian Dubie. The Vermont Supreme Court found in 2011 that the PAC-- run by the Democratic Governors Association-- failed to register with the state and failed to identify itself in the ads.

No penalty was originally assessed, but now the DGA has reached a deal with the attorney general's office to pay $30,000.
