NORTH HAVERHILL, N.H. -

Rodney Hill has been found competent to stand trial.

The Vermont man was charged with randomly killing Kitty Houghton in a hotel lobby.

Police say Hill stabbed the 70-year-old Houghton to death at the Hampton Inn in Littleton, N.H., in January.

A judge ruled Thursday that the West Danville man is of sound mind to face murder charges.

Houghton was from California. She was in town to visit the White Mountain School, where she was a trustee.

Police say the two did not know each other.
