Opponents of the F-35 fighter jet say
the Air Force has made its decision to base the planes in Vermont and they are
now planning to sue the government. There has been no official word on the
basing decision, though it is expected sometime this month.
In every step of the planning process,
the Vermont Air Guard has been the military's preferred choice as the first
Guard unit to get the new planes. Opponents say their sources inside the Air
Force tell them the decision has been made.
Opponents have raised objections about
the noise from the jets and concerns about crash dangers. The group says it
will file a lawsuit saying the environmental impact study the Air Force did at
the Burlington airport was inadequate under federal law.
