LUNENBURG, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont sheriff's department is going to be dedicating a memorial to a deputy who was killed when her cruiser crashed a decade ago.
The Nov. 27 dedication will remember the sacrifice of Essex County Sheriff's Deputy Sheriff Ruby Rainault.
The 54-year-old Rainault was killed Nov. 24, 2003 when the cruiser she was driving was hit broadside a box truck while she was making a U-turn on U.S. Route 2 in Lunenburg.
Essex County Sheriff Trevor Colby says it's appropriate to pay tribute to Rainault, the first Vermont female law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty.
A memorial sign has been erected on the site of the crash in which Rainault died.
