COVENTRY, Vt. (AP) - The Coventry landfill has received an updated Vermont land-use permit that allows it to increase the amount of garbage it can accept every year.
The updated Act 250 permit issued to New England Waste Services of Vermont by the District 7 Environmental Commission allows the landfill it to accept a maximum of 600,000 tons of garbage a year, up from 370,000 tons.
And the maximum daily intake of garbage will double from 2,500 tons a day to 5,000 tons.
The Caledonian Record reports there are no new or expanded cells at the landfill to take on more total garbage and as a result the landfill will close sooner than it would have under the previous permit.
