BURLINGTON, Vt. -

The Winooski man who gunned down a drug dealer during a robbery in South Burlington accepted a plea deal Tuesday.

Police say Robert Dougherty, 36, and his two roommates set up a deal to buy crack cocaine from Abdul Clay, 34, but then they refused to pay and instead, Dougherty shot Clay.

Dougherty was charged with first-degree murder, but Tuesday he pleaded guilty to manslaughter and assault and robbery. The plea deal calls for 13-25 years in prison.
