Black Friday losing its luster?

Posted: Updated:

Millions of Americans are expected to head out to stores soon after finishing their Thanksgiving dinners Thursday.

The tradition of launching the Christmas shopping season with door buster sales early on the Friday after Thanksgiving began to erode last year with stores opening Thursday night, and this year almost every major retailer is getting in on the action.

Some people grumble about big business intruding on their holiday, but experts say it's a response to consumer demand.

Further evidence that Black Friday has lost its luster is that it is no longer the single best day for super sales and a poll by Consumer Reports finds that 56 percent of Americans plan to skip shopping on Black Friday.
