Middlebury and Plattsburgh will meet in the championship game of the 16th Primelink Great Northern Shootout. The Panthers and Cardinals punching their ticket with opening night wins Friday at Stafford Ice Arena.
In the opener, the 15th ranked Panthers and 2nd ranked Norwich Cadets played to a 1-1 tie. The game then went to a shootout to determine who would advance to the championship game and Middlebury blanked Norwich 2-0 to return to the tournament final for the second year in a row.
Norwich, which won the last two Shootout titles, will miss the championship game for the first time in eight years.
In the nightcap, the host Cardinals, ranked third in the nation, knocked off this year's invited team, Wisconsin-Superior 4-1. The host school has won the Primelink Shootout six of the past seven years.
Middlebury and Plattsburgh will meet for the Shootout title Saturday night at 7pm. Norwich will face Wisconsin-Superior in the consolation game at 4pm at Staffor Ice Arena.
