Burlington police investigate assault and robbery

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Who's behind an assault and robbery in Burlington's South End?

It happened Tuesday afternoon on Marble Avenue. Police say two armed men entered another man's apartment, assaulted him and stole several items. Investigators say the victim knew his attackers, but they aren't commenting on what prompted the altercation.

Eyewitnesses say the suspects fled the scene.

The victim was treated for minor injuries.

"The victim knows who the suspects are. He was able to identify both names and descriptions, obviously the vehicle," Burlington Police Sgt. Justin Couture said. "We don't feel that this is a random thing. It was some issue that the suspects and the victim had."

Police believe the two men fled the scene in a black car with Massachusetts plates. A few hours later a similar vehicle turned up at a South Burlington condo complex. Eyewitnesses say police and canine teams searched the area for hours. Police towed the vehicle from the scene and confirmed it is connected to the case. The two suspects remain at large.
