Vermonters recycle more than a third of their waste, but lawmakers think more should be done.
Act 148 is a new law that mandates more recycling.
In 2014 - large generators of food waste, such as hospitals and manufacturers will be required to recycle.
In 2015 - household materials like newspaper and milk jugs will be banned from landfills.
In 2016 - leaves, grass and other yard waste will be banned from landfills.
In 2020 - Everyone must compost, with food waste being banned from landfills.
Governor Peter Shumlin signed the law last year.
