Nearly a month after announcing three Vermont Health Centers will receive federal grants, Sen. Bernie Sanders is congratulating the centers for their hard work.
The Battenkill Valley Center, Gifford Health Center and the Five Town Health Alliance in Bristol will now join eight other centers, including the Burlington location, as federally qualified health centers. The three additional centers bring the total number of FQHC's in the state to 11.
The centers thanked Sanders for pushing for the grants totaling more than $2 million.
"This will really help us in terms of maintaining things in our area, and of course we have great hopes for expanding our satellites, maybe into Bennington as well, so we're really very thankful and very grateful for this," said Beth Wennar of the Battenkill Valley Health Center.
The 11 centers serve about 160,000 customers covered by Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance, as well as Vermonters with no insurance.
