Tentative deal announced between Vt., employees

Posted: Updated:

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont state employees will see 2.5 percent pay increases in each of the next two Julys, as well as improved dental coverage under terms of a tentative contract deal.

Administration Secretary Jeb Spaulding and Vermont State Employees' Association President Shelley Martin announced the agreements with three VSEA bargaining units on Thursday afternoon. Those units cover corrections, supervisory and non-management workers throughout state government.

Other changes are aimed at improving the state's ability to staff the Vermont Veterans' Home in Bennington and new psychiatric facilities being developed to replace the now-closed Vermont State Hospital.

The agreement must still be ratified by the union rank and file.
