A very merry Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -

Sue Boucher and her family have made "A Very Merry Middlebury" their family tradition.

"We've been coming down for probably 10 years now," says Sue Boucher of South Burlington.

A Very Merry Middlebury is put together by the Better Middlebury Partnership - to promote a fun and booming Middlebury.

"First Saturday of December every year - it's on the calendar," says Boucher.

All day people are getting into the holiday spirit, walking up and down Main Street and checking out what special events are happening.

"It's purely a chance to give back to the community, who have been so generously supporting us," says "T" Tall of the Sheldon Museum.

A Very Merry Middlebury has fun activities for the whole family - from hot chocolate tastings, to horse and carriage rides, to meeting the big man himself.

"We start at the Agway for the free pancake breakfast. Do some Christmas shopping and then come into town, one of the favorites is the gingerbread houses," says Boucher.

The Vermont Folk Life Center is home to the 15th annual gingerbread house competition. This year's theme was Cinderella.

"The brilliance of these creations, the cleverness, the ingenuity, the remarkable and unexpected quality of these structures is just amazing," says Gregory Sharrow of Vermont Folk Life.

For the Boucher's, it isn't the holiday season without this event. "So every year we seem to find a new spot that we check out, and we have lunch and just make it a great day."

AND... A Very Merry Middlebury.
