MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont's snowmobile season is set to open Dec. 16 - assuming there's enough snow.
Across Vermont, snowmobile clubs are putting up signs, fixing bridges and trimming brush on the 4,700 miles of groomed corridor trails and 1,500 miles of less-well maintained feeder trails.
Matt Tetreault of the Vermont Association of Snow Travelers says that, by law, snowmobile season is timed to start after the last possible day of the fall deer hunting season. This year, the season opens Dec. 16.
Tetreault says snowmobilers should stay off the trails until the season is open and groomers have had time to get the trails ready.
