Ludlow mulls $2.6 m bike path

Posted: Updated:

LUDLOW, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont ski town of Ludlow is considering adding a $2.6 million bike and pedestrian path to link the community's business section to mountain recreation areas.

The Rutland Herald reports that the 3.5-mile paved trail would run along Route 103 from a park-and-ride lot and then eventually move to side roads that lead to the Jackson Gore and Buttermilk Falls recreational areas.

The town could apply for a state Agency of Transportation bicycle and pedestrian program grant that would cover 90 percent of the project.

The Select Board has voiced support for seeking the state grant but has not officially voted to do so. Leaders may also put an article on the March town meeting ballot seeking funding for the next phase of the planning.
