Successful rifle deer hunting season in Vt.

Posted: Updated:

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. (AP) - It's been a successful rifle deer hunting season on Vermont.

Cedric Alexander, Wildlife Biologist for Vermont Fish and Game, says it appears the deer kill is up a bit over last year and that the higher deer numbers are attributable to recent mild winters.

State personnel are still collection information from local weigh stations.

Game warden Dennis Amsden tells the Caledonian Record the season was fairly routine from a safety and enforcement standpoint, with no hunting accidents he was aware of and a small number of citations.

The Village Sport Shop in Lyndonville recorded 49 bucks during rifle season. In Concord, Mike Chadburn, the owner of Barnie's Market, said he weighed between 85 and 90 deer for the season, five of them over 200 pounds.
