BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A well-known lawyer based in St. Johnsbury travels across Vermont to Burlington this week to talk about representing a client who is imprisoned at the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
David Sleigh will deliver his remarks at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Burlington City Hall's Contois Auditorium as a guest of the Burlington-based Peace & Justice Center.
Sleigh is representing an Afghani citizen who is being held at Guantanamo. He filed a writ of habeas corpus - a legal brief demanding that the prisoner be brought to court and charged - four years ago, and has never gotten a response from the government.
