Former Vt. Gov. Jim Douglas had a run-in with a deer on Interstate 89 Saturday.
Vermont State Police say Douglas was headed north on the interstate in Colchester shortly before 6 p.m. when he hit the deer.
The former governor and his wife, Dorothy, were not injured, but Mr. Douglas had to pull over because of the damage to his car. It was towed away.
Police were not able to find the deer.
We reached out to Gov. Douglas about
the incident. He said he's delighted he and Gov. Peter Shumlin now have
something in common-- and he's glad it's not a bear in the backyard.
Shumlin, of course, recently shot a
six-point buck during rifle season. And as for the bear, you may remember last
year Shumlin was chased by four bears in the buff in his own backyard after
trying to scare them away from his bird feeders.
Luckily in both cases the governors ended up just fine.
