Amid the messy rollout of President
Obama's Affordable Care Act, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont, wants to abandon
the health exchange and is renewing his push for a single-payer system instead.
Sanders has long been an advocate of a
government-run system. He reluctantly agreed to go along with the Affordable
Care Act in 2010, but he calls it a modest step toward improving health care
coverage. And now with Americans struggling with a glitchy website and millions
losing their existing coverage, Sanders has decided now is the time to
introduce a single-payer bill. His idea would put all Americans under the
federal Medicare program that now covers senior citizens.
