BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. (AP) - A plan to merge the Vermont village of Bellows Falls with the town of Rockingham in 2014 has been tabled for now.
On Tuesday the Bellows Falls Village Trustees rejected the merger proposal by a vote of 3-1 and the Rockingham Select Board voted to rescind its motion to approve the merger.
The moves came after dozens of residents complained the merger was being rushed through.
The two boards plan to meet next Tuesday to discuss the merger and consider adding a proposal to turn the Bellows Falls Police Department into a townwide department.
