Crews battled a fire at a multi-family home in Winooski Thursday evening.
The fire broke out around 8 p.m. and the Winooski fire chief says when firefighters arrived, half of the home was already in flames. Officials say the house is split into three apartments and that it could be home to as many as 10 people. Cold temperatures also proved to be a challenge for firefighters.
"We stopped the fire from spreading to the buildings on either side right or left of it. What's problematic right now is the weather-- icy conditions, and we have a water supply problem. We just have to manage our water supply a little better," Winooski Fire Chief David Bergeron said.
The Winooksi fire chief says all three apartments were occupied when the fire broke out. As of Thursday night, there were no reports of injuries. And the cause of the fire was not yet known.
The Red Cross is helping three families displaced by the fire.
