BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a 25-year-old man listed as being from Philadelphia and Burlington, Vt., is going to prison for almost five years for his conviction of a being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Troy McIlwain was sentenced Thursday by U.S. District Court Judge J. Garvan Murtha.

Court records say McIlwain has a long criminal history, including a felony burglary conviction, possession of stolen property, domestic assault and several probation violations.

He was arrested in Burlington on June 25, 2012. While fleeing law enforcement, prosecutors say McIlwain discarded a firearm. He later surrendered after an hours-long standoff and police found an additional firearm in the location where he was hiding.

McIlwain's attorney could not be reached for comment.
