North Country Federal Credit Union is warning customers about a possible scam.
The Credit Union's call center heard from hundreds of members this week, worried about a phone message claiming their Credit-ATM card was blocked, and then asking for personal information to unblock it.
The credit union says that call is not from North Country and is likely a scam. North County's Executive Vice President says they would never ask for PIN numbers or other personal information.
"These efforts-- whether they be by email, text on the phone-- are fraudulent. We will never ask for any information, personal information like that. It's just a blanket statement; we won't do it," said Bob Cowie of North Country Federal Credit Union.
He says scam calls can be common in the banking industry and credit union members should reach out any time they have a question about their account.
