A snowstorm is expected to hit our region later Saturday and into Sunday morning.
VTrans says they are ready to tackle messy roads. The agency told us their garages will have trucks ready to go, and their staff is ready as well. Although they say some areas might pretreat, that will be a local decision.
They are asking people to be careful on the roads, especially as more people are out doing some holiday shopping.
"We're looking for folks to be cautious about the weather that's coming. Use all those protections that they have -- keeping safe distance, allowing more time to get there. Allow yourself more distance between the vehicles ahead of you. Play it safe," says David Blackmore with VTrans.
And in New Hampshire, they're also gearing up for that foot of snow that's expected to fall in the state starting later this afternoon.
Transportation officials say it's too cold to pre-treat the roads with salt-brine mixture, because it won't prevent ice build-up if the temperatures are too cold.
But they're hoping the weekend means there will be less traffic on the roads, which will help highway crews keep them clearer.
