BURLINGTON, Vt. -

A final farewell this weekend for a well-known New Hampshire politician.

Executive Councilor Ray Burton died last month after battling cancer.  Saturday, hundreds turned out at ceremony at Plymouth State University to pay their respects.  Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Kelly Ayotte were just two of the guest speakers who praised Burton's dedication to the people of New Hampshire.   Burton was the longest serving Executive Councilor in state history, holding office for 35 years.

At the end of the ceremony, an oil painting portrait of Burton was presented to Governor Maggie Hassan.   It was painted by Burton's friend, Craig Pursley, in his hometown of  Bath.  The portrait will be hung in the Statehouse.
