BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont man has been sentenced to five years of probation and ordered to pay over $24,000 for submitting false mileage reimbursement claims for travel to a VA hospital.
The U.S. Attorney's office says 45-year-old Scott Lavertue pleaded guilty in August to knowingly submitting false claims for reimbursement. His sentence includes a four-month period of home confinement.
Court records say he submitted 340 mileage reimbursement claims between November 2009 and April 2011. The forms indicated he was living in Richford, which is about 127 miles from the VA Medical Center in White River Junction. He actually was in Vershire, which is about 25 miles away.
