UVM staff, faculty vie for food collection bragging rights

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

A bus full of food is headed to the Chittenden Emergency Food shelf.

University of Vermont faculty and staff have been collecting food and money donations over the holiday season for the food shelf programs. Monday they collected more than 7,000 pounds of food and cash donations from all over campus.

School officials say a little competition between departments helped keep the donations coming. "We have people from all over campus coming -- we have faculty coming, staff coming -- everybody really, really puts a lot into this. They have a little competition that added to it," said UVM's Bess Malsen-Huddle.

Last year the custodial department raked in the most donations.
