NEWPORT, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife says a Newport man is going to jail for 30 days after being convicted of poaching a deer.
The department says 33-year-old Michael Bickford pleaded no contest earlier this month to a charge of possessing big game taken during closed season.
Game Warden Sgt. Bradley Mann says Bickford was found to be in possession of deer meat and a velvet antlered deer skull in September 2012. An investigation determined the deer was not legally taken and therefore could not be legally possessed.
It was Bickford's third big game conviction in five years.
Bickford will also lose his right to hunt, fish and trap in Vermont and 39 other states for three years.
It could not be determined if Bickford had a lawyer.
