Web Watch: Google's bots

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

It appears the major tech companies are buying themselves some early Christmas presents. First Amazon announces it's investing in a new drone project and now Google has just revealed it has bought a Boston-based robot company.

It's called Boston Dynamics and it already does a lot of work for the government, but now Google owns these heavy duty curious creatures. Like cheetah which runs faster than Usain Bolt. Big Dog can climb up walls and rough terrain and doesn't get knocked down when kicked. Then, there is Atlas a two-legged robot that walks just like a human.

No word as to how Google will use these robots. There is some speculation the company could use them for transportation, warehousing and emergency situations like fires.

Experts at MIT say this is the second coming of the industrial revolution, only this time around its digital technologies- like hardware, software and robots.
