Six votes later -- Walden residents approve school budget

Posted: Updated:
WALDEN, Vt. -

The sixth time is the charm. Residents in Walden hit the polls Tuesday, approving a new $2.5 million school budget.

The measure approved by a vote of 176-131.

Voters had rejected a $2.7 million spending plan for the fifth time in October. It was originally approved by a four-vote margin on Town Meeting Day, but was later rejected in a reconsideration vote this spring, and again in follow-up votes in June and July.

Right now the Caledonia County town is borrowing money to pay for this year's operating costs.
