People in Rutland have a great reason to celebrate.
Organizers with the annual Gift-of-Life blood donation marathon say Tuesday's event smashed the previous record for donations held by Manchester, N.H.
In total, the drive pulled in 2,337 pints of blood, topping New Hampshire's previous record of 1,968 by more than 300 pints.
"There are a lot of hometown heroes here today and it's because so many people have stepped up as a community to break the record," said David Wolk, the president of Castleton State College.
Rutland now holds three of the top four spots on the list of the 10 largest blood drives in U.S. history.
