The Saint Michael's College men's basketball team downed Merrimack College, 81-69, during Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division action in the Ross Sports Center Tuesday. The Purple Knights improve to 8-2 overall on the season, matching there entire win total from last season. They are also 4-2 in the NE-10 and have won five straight home games.
Junior James Cambronne scored a career-high 23 points while snagging 9 rebounds. With two blocks, he passed Matt Jones '87 (103) while matching Keith Odums '92 (104) for fourth in program history in career rejections. Junior Mike Holton Jr. notched 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Corey Crawford II added 14 points. Junior Dom Ditlefsen had 9 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. The Purple Knights close out 2013 at Nyack College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
The Purple Knights women's team fell to Merrimack, 80-62 Tuesday night at the Ross Sports Center. St. Michael's slipped to 2-7 overall and 1-5 in the NE-10. Senior Alexa Long posted her fifth double-double of the season for Saint Michael's, totaling 20 points to go along with 11 rebounds. First-year Indira Evora tied her season high with 16 points behind 9-of-11 free throw shooting in addition tallying a season-best 8 rebounds and matching her high of 4 assists. Sophomore Makenzie Burud had 8 points, and junior Maggie Sabine added 6 points and 5 rebounds.
The Purple Knights head to the University of New Haven on Friday for a 6 p.m. non-conference game to close out the 2013 calendar year.
