The University of Vermont will continue to invest in fossil fuel companies.
Several committees recommended the board of trustees divest the school's endowment of holdings by oil companies and others tied to the production and sale of fossil fuels. But a subcommittee of the trustees voted unanimously against divestment. The members said it would not be in the best fiduciary interests of UVM to divest. The subcommittee says UVM would have more political influence by holding onto its investments and using that voice to influence change.
