Utility warns of extended power outages

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Ice Storm 2013 is still in full swing and things are getting worse in Franklin and Orleans Counties.

In Franklin County about 4,600 people have no power; In Orleans County it's 3,200; In Lamoille County it's 2,150; and Chittenden County it's 1,000.

Vermont Electric Coop says it is a very dangerous situation in Enosburgh, Berkshire, Montgomery and Richford, where the ice continues accumulate and bring down trees and power lines.  The power company wants all of its customers in those four towns to be prepared to be without power for several days and to make sure they have enough water, food and access to heat.

Further east in Glover, nearly the whole town was left in the dark after the weekend storm. VEC crews are working to restore lines to turn the lights back on Monday.
