Ice storm freezes holiday shopping

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

The Ice storm couldn't have come at a worse time for retailers.  The one-two weather punch kept shoppers at home rather than at the stores for both Saturday and Sunday, the last big weekend before Christmas.

And it looked like shoppers were making up for lost time Monday. There was a steady stream of traffic at Taft Corners in Williston. On Church Street in Burlington, Frank Bouchett, the owner of Homeport said it was good to see traffic in the store.

"It was devastating for just about three to four days and so in the  busiest few days of the year it really hurts," he said.

Bouchett says there is no way to know how much money was lost over the weekend due to the storm, but he says store traffic was way down.
