The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say at least five people have died from the flu in the United States. Four of those deaths have been from H1N1, commonly known as swine flu.
Vermont Health officials say this year's flu shot protects against that strain and it's not too late to get it.
"You may get a strong immune response which shows that your immune system is responding and you may get a cough or a mild fever or something in response to it, but you're not getting the flu," says Vermont Immunization Program Manager Christine Finley.
Health officials say the vaccine is extremely safe. They also say people very rarely have an allergic reaction. The CDC says the chance of that happening is less than one in a million.
