Some more snow in store for the region -- and that could spell trouble for utilities, already struggling to keep power on from last week's ice storm.
Utilities are saying the wet snow is likely to further weigh down trees that have not shed ice, and trigger a new round of outages. Green Mountain Power Officials say they have crews pre-positioned around the state. Before the snow even started to fall, Vermont Electric Cooperative reported outages ticking up again Sunday because of thawing temperatures.
"These areas are thawing out, so any additional moisture -- any additional precipitation -- will really have a bad impact over the next several days," said Liz Gamache with VEC.
VEC estimates the total cost of the cleanup from the past week in the $6.5 million dollar range. They say FEMA officials will reportedly be in the area Monday to access the damage.
