A ground breaking Monday in Woodstock to improve the Windsor County Courthouse.
The courthouse has been located on the village green in Woodstock since 1855, but it needs a major facelift. The court lacks proper security and fire exits. It's also not handicapped accessible. Monday state and local officials gathered to break ground on the renovation project, which was approved by voters on Town Meeting Day.
"We are planning to put a holding cell in this place too, so it will open it up to some criminal matters and hopefully get more court traffic because yes, we're accessible and it will get more use I think," said Asst. Windsor County Judge Jack Anderson.
Fifty-nine percent of the people in Windsor County approved the $2 million dollar bond for the project. The renovation is expected to be complete by Labor Day.
